Young Alum Establishes Fund for Winthrop’s Golf Program

ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Men’s Golf Team will receive discretionary support, thanks to a generous bequest from Rock Hill native Chris Chamberlin, Class of 2000, and his wife Jenny.

The Chris B. Chamberlin Golf Fund will be used for scholarships, facility upgrades and operational expenses.

“University golf programs are becoming more advanced, and our program needs alumni and other supporters’ help to keep the team competitive. It feels great to be able to give back to a program that has left such an impression on my life,” said Chamberlin, who was a member of the Men’s Golf Team.

As a student athlete, he took individual honors in 1998 at the Appalachian State Invitational, and later in the year, he qualified for the 1998 U.S. Amateur played at Oak Hills Country Club in Rochester, NY.

Chamberlin added that having the opportunity to represent Winthrop in tournaments around the country positively enhanced his college experience, and he hopes his gift can provide a similar experience to others.

Since the Men’s Golf Team was formed at Winthrop, nine players have won a combined 21 tournaments, and four golfers have qualified for the U.S. Amateur.
