Winthrop's Psi Chi Advisor Wins 2010-11 Denmark Award

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Merry Sleigh, associate professor of psychology, is the recipient of the 2010-11 Psi Chi/Florence Denmark Faculty Advisor Award for her work as advisor of Psi Chi, the international psychology honor society, at Winthrop.

Sleigh will travel to Washington, D.C., in early August to attend the Psi Chi Award Ceremony of the 2011 American Psychological Association National Convention and receive her award plaque.

Melissa Strickland, director of finance/awards for Psi Chi, noted that Sleigh is "a role model for psychology students and other Psi Chi advisors."

"Psi Chi is fortunate to have had such a dedicated faculty advisor at Winthrop University," Strickland wrote.  

Sleigh also is the recipient of the 2008 College of Arts and Sciences Outstanding Advisor Award and the 2010 Psi Chi Regional Faculty Advisor Award at Winthrop. In 2009, Winthrop's Psi Chi chapter won the Southeastern Regional Chapter Award.

Sleigh earned her Ph.D. in developmental biopsychology at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and her B.A. in psychology and English at James Madison University.
