ROCK HILL,S.C. - A new gift from the estate of Gladys Rowell Sullivan, class of 1937, will establish the Sullivan Endowment at Winthrop University. The gift, in excess of $25,000, will provide unrestricted dollars for support of Winthrop University.
“Unrestricted gifts like the one from Gladys Rowell Sullivan are of vital importance to Winthrop because they provide funding where the university needs it most,” said Amanda Stewart, director of donor relations and communications.
She added that unrestricted gifts provide funding for student scholarships, academic programs, faculty/ staff awards and alumni programming.
Sullivan, of Lancaster, S.C., who died in 2010, spent much of her working career as a home economics teacher and librarian at Buford High School in Lancaster.
Three of Sullivan’s four sisters also attended Winthrop. They are: Annie Rowell Funderburk, Mary Kathryn Mobley Rowell and Ruth Rowell Bailey, class of 1922.
