Graphic Design, Illustration Seniors to Present Work at April 22 Show

ROCK HILL, S.C. - The "freshest cut" of Winthrop's student graphic designers and illustrators will celebrate their hard work with a senior show April 22 in Charlotte, N.C. 

Held April 22 at The Mint Museum in Charlotte, "FRESH MEAT: Graphic Design & Illustration Senior Show" will spotlight the work of seniors graphic design and illustration majors at Winthrop. The show opens for professionals only from 5-7 p.m. and opens to the public at 7 p.m. Guest speaker Martin Venezky, creator of internationally known design firm Appetite Engineers, will give a talk at 8 p.m.

Venezky's interest in intricacy, complexity, ornament and handwork has gained him international recognition and landed him on ID Magazine's "ID40" list of influential designers in 1997. He has taught at the California College of the Arts, the California Institute of the Arts and the Art Center College of Design. Venezky earned his B.F.A. at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H., and his M.F.A. at the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Mich.

Admission to The Mint will be free for those attending "FRESH MEAT" and Venezky's talk, which are open to the public. The Mint, located at 2730 Randolph Rd., Charlotte, is open Sundays, 1-5 p.m., Tuesdays 10 a.m.-9 p.m. (free admission 5-9 p.m.) and Wednesday-Saturdays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. The museum is closed on Mondays and major holidays.
