ROCK HILL, S.C. - For the Department of Theatre and Dance, spring means one thing: Advanced dance students are gearing up to show off their choreography skills at the spring 2011 Student Choreography Showcase April 21-23.
Six advanced dance students will choreograph works for the three-day showcase. These student choreographers are: Kaitlyn Eden (Barnwell, S.C.); Megan Friend (Greer, S.C.); Everett Johnson (Rock Hill); Victoria Painter (Clark, N.J.); Janet Stewart (Columbia, S.C.); and Rochelle Stone (Cheraw, S.C.). Acting as stage manager is Eric Gaston of Rock Hill. Nearly 30 student dancers will perform the pieces, which range in style from modern dance to jazz and ballet.
All students in a semester-long class, the choreographers are responsible for planning every aspect of their works, including designing costumes and coordinating lighting. Adjunct professor of dance Stacy McConnell will direct this year's showcase, while assistant professor of theatre Biff Edge will serve as technical director and lighting designer.
Student Choreography Showcase performances will be held April 21-22 at 8 p.m. and April 23 at 2 p.m. in Johnson Theatre. Seating is reserved.
Tickets for the April 21 performance are $10 for the public and $5 with Winthrop I.D; tickets to remaining shows are $15/public and $8/Winthrop I.D. To reserve seats, contact the box office at 803/323-4014 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
