Rock Hill Couple Gives $600,000 Gift for Literacy Programs
The donors intend that their gift will have a significant impact in addressing a key issue in developing bright futures for children.
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Winthrop University’s
Richard W. Riley College of Education
is the recipient of a $600,000 gift from anonymous donors designated for the support of literacy programs. The donors, a Rock Hill couple who are committed to championing education and myriad community endeavors, are hopeful that their gift will pave the way for continued strides in
The donors intend that their gift will have a significant impact in addressing a key issue in developing bright futures for children. Their support for enhancing current literacy programs within the
Riley College of Education
as well as support for developing new literacy programs promises to create opportunities for Winthrop to continue to make a difference locally and potentially across the state and nation.
, dean of the college, said that the gift “provides vital support for a critical area in education today. This generous gift will allow the Riley College of Education to extend direct assistance to children in the Rock Hill area as we work with parents and schools to improve reading and writing competency.”
Resources from the gift will be used to enhance or create initiatives including curricular and/or program development, books, software, and student research assistance.
