ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Vernon and Ann Terry Softball Scholarship, which will provide a scholarship opportunity for a softball student-athlete who displays leadership qualities within her team and in the Winthrop University community, has been established.
The Terrys of Catawba, S.C., have been loyal supporters of Winthrop athletics for many years and in 2000 established three previous scholarships: the Vernon W. and Ann Scott Terry Athletic Endowment, the Vernon W. Terry Endowed Scholarship for Men’s Basketball and the Ann Scott Terry Endowed Scholarship for Women’s Basketball.
“Vernon and Ann Terry are wonderful examples of the true meaning of loyalty,” said Winthrop President Anthony DiGiorgio. “By consistently supporting Winthrop year after year with their attendance at athletic events, genuine interest in the men’s and women’s athletic teams and their continued philanthropy, they have established themselves as Winthrop’s premier cheerleaders.”
This latest scholarship was established in honor of Vernon Terry’s 60th birthday. “It is very telling that whenever the Terrys experience a milestone in their lives they celebrate with a gift to Winthrop. Their support of Winthrop serves as a motivator for other Eagles fans and Winthrop supporters,” said DiGiorgio.
