ROCK HILL, S.C. - Cecelia “Cece” Stewart ’93 has committed $250,000 to Winthrop University. Half of this generous gift will create the Cecelia Stewart Endowed Scholarship, which will honor students who show academic promise and improvement over time.

First preference for the scholarship will be given to business majors. The second half of Stewart’s gift is unrestricted, meaning the Winthrop community can use the gift to support key priority projects immediately. In recognition of Stewart’s gift, two conjoining classrooms on the second floor of Carroll Hall will be named the Stewart and Dickson Classrooms, honoring her family histories.

Stewart, who led Morgan Stanley’s entry into the retail banking sector, has recently been hired as the president of U.S. consumer and commercial banking for Citigroup. In both 2006 and 2007, Stewart was named by Fortune Magazine as one of the top 50 Women in Business. Stewart is also a member of the Winthrop University Foundation Board.
