King Day for Kids Postponed; Winthrop Students Encouraged to Participate in Community Service Project

 University students are encouraged to participate in a service project Jan. 17 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Applied Technology Center on 2399 W. Main Street.

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Winthrop University’s King Day for Kids event, originally planned for Monday, Jan. 17 at the DiGiorgio Campus Center for elementary and middle school students, has been postponed to Saturday, Feb. 19.

Area school children were going to have Martin Luther King Jr. Day off as a holiday but some school districts will use that day now as a snow makeup day.

Winthrop will still observe Jan. 17 as a holiday. University students are encouraged to participate in a service project that day from 10 a.m. to noon at the Applied Technology Center on 2399 W. Main Street. Volunteers will assist with the “Back the Pack” program, which is designed to provide nutritious, nonperishable food for malnourished students to take home on weekends.

Winthrop students can register for the service project by contacting Laura Foster with the Center for Career and Civic Engagement at 803/323-2520 or fosterl@winthrop.edu by 5 p.m. Friday.
