Second Annual Prom Project 2005 Begins

Quick Facts

Donations are being accepted at the Information Services Desk of the Dinkins Student Center until March 4.
Last year's event was a huge success as more than 200 dresses were collected.

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Winthrop employees, students and the Rock Hill community are asked to join forces to help make "Prom Project 2005" a success. The Office of Information Services in Department of Student Affairs is soliciting donations of formal and semi-formal, clean, gently used, slightly worn and currently styled dresses, shoes, purses, wraps, jewelry, hair accessories and new hosiery.

Donations are being accepted at the Information Services Desk of the Dinkins Student Center until March 4. Here's an opportunity to give back to the community as well as clean out your closets, said organizer Sharon Witherspoon. Last year's event was a huge success as more than 200 dresses were collected.

All items are being given to underprivileged students in local area schools who otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity to experience this milestone in their lives. Approximately five high schools will participate in the "Prom Project 2005."

Each school is expected to provide 35-45 students with passes that will admit them to select attire at the Dinkins Student Center on an undisclosed date. In addition to clothing, area restaurants, makeup and hairstylists have agreed to donate their services in the form of gift certificates. Any clothing or accessories that are not used this year will be held for next year’s event.
