Graphic Design and Illustration Graduation Portfolio Show Is Critical

 As part of this year's show, the graduating class has published their own book of writing on design called "Critical: Voices of Student Design."

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Winthrop University is proud to present the eighth annual Graphic Design and Illustration Portfolio Show on April 15. Richard Buchanan, editor of Design Issues and professor of design from Carnegie Melon University, will speak. The event will be held in the Tillman Auditorium followed by the portfolio viewing for students in the visual communication design program and a reception.

Buchanan will begin his lecture at 7 p.m. to discuss issues of design and design education. Buchanan is on the forefront of design research that draws from his experience from three of the top design schools in the country, The School of the Art Institute in Chicago, University of Illinois in Chicago and Carnegie Melon University. He has published a number of books and articles on the subjects of Design and Rhetoric, Managing Design, Design in the Digital Age, and the Future of Design just to name a few.

As part of this year's show, the graduating class has published their own book of writing on design called "Critical: Voices of Student Design." Buchanan has written the forward to the book and also includes submissions from some of the design faculty. The book will be available for purchase at the show.

Advanced tickets are available at the Art and Design office, 140 McLaurin Hall: $7 for general admission and $5 for AIGA members and students. Tickets also are available at the door for $10 for general admission and $7 for AIGA members and students.
