ROCK HILL, S.C. - Willie Lyles III of Blythewood, S.C., is chairman of Winthrop University’s Council of Student Leaders for 2005-06.
The Council of Student Leaders serves as the official voice for Winthrop students and makes many significant contributions to the university. Some of the members’ duties include reviewing charter applications for new student organizations, overseeing distribution of student activity funds, making student appointments to campus committees and promoting university events, such as Homecoming, Convocation and other events. The chair also serves as the student representative to Winthrop’s Board of Trustees.
A rising senior and political science major, Lyles will officially take office on June 30. He is the son of Willie and Carolyn Lyles.
Lyles worked on a student voting initiative last fall in anticipation of the presidential election. He will spend this summer interning on Capitol Hill with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation in Washington, D.C. working in the office of U.S. Rep Jim Clyburn, D-S.C.
