ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop University President Anthony DiGiorgio will join the national Board of Directors of Campus Compact beginning July 1.
Nationwide, Campus Compact is a national coalition of more than 1,100 college and university presidents, representing some six million students. The Boston, Mass. based organization is the only national higher education association dedicated solely to campus-based civic engagement.
Campus Compact members promote public and community service to develop students’ citizenship skills, forge community partnerships and provide resources and training for faculty seeking to integrate civic and community-based learning into the curriculum.
The South Carolina Campus Compact, which moved to the Winthrop campus in December, is one of 35 state compacts affiliated with National Campus Compact. With Winthrop as the host institution, DiGiorgio will serve as the chair of the Presidents’ Council for the S.C. group and its coalition of 14 colleges and universities.
He will begin his 22nd year at Winthrop in July and is the longest-serving public university president in South Carolina.
