Name: Ana Subotic
When international students inquire about Winthrop,
an international student on campus helps respond to their questions.
Ana Subotic, a junior integrated
marketing communication major from Slovenia and Greece, can relate to
attending university in a different country. She followed her brother, Leon, to
Winthrop and both attend on international ambassador scholarships.
Subotic works in the admissions
office with the International
Student Recruiter to help ease the application process for students from
around the world.
"It is a good feeling to meet someone that I have
been in contact with," Subotic said.
She also chips in with travel
arrangements for the recruiter, with giving campus tours and such events as
World Wide Winthrop Day, Preview Day and
First Look Fridays.
A dancer with modern dance and
ballet training, Subotic mixes easily with American and international students
with her outgoing personality. Her family noted that she showed an early
interest in public relations, marketing and advertising as her father coached
professional basketball in Slovenia.
She worked a six-week
internship this summer with Formitas BBDO, an integrated
communication agency in Slovenia specializing in advertising, communication
strategies, strategic management and corporate communication. She gained
valuable experience when she served as project manager for a car catalog. "They
trusted me a lot," she said to work with clients, designers and photographers to
complete the product. "I am very detail-oriented and goal-oriented."
She loves Winthrop for its small classes, attention from professors who know
her name and friendly atmosphere. "I would love to stay in the Charlotte area
and work," Subotic concluded.
