Budget Update

Current as of February 25, 2010

Dear Colleagues,

Some of you who keep up with media reports in ‘The State’ or on www.thestate.com may be confused by an erroneous report carried there this morning, which inaccurately reports the following: “State colleges and universities were mostly left untouched, as cuts in state funding were offset by stimulus funds.”

While we all wish that was the case, unfortunately the proposed cuts are as indicated to you in last night’s budget update. A fuller Associated Press version of last night’s Columbia events, including a quote from Ways and Means Chairman Dan Cooper referencing the 20 percent reduction, can be found here: http://content.usatoday.net/dist/custom/gci/InsidePage.aspx?cId=greenvilleonline&sParam=32887495.story

Please be assured we are working with ‘The State’ to have their article corrected. The  budget process will continue to move forward today, when the full committee will vote to send its budget recommendations to the full House. As always, we will keep you apprised of further key developments.

Sincerely,

Tony DiGiorgio
