PLSC 260: The United Nations

  • Section 001 (pdf - 57.3 KB) / 002 (pdf - 57.2 KB) - Winthrop students interested in participating in Model United Nations may register for PLSC 260: The United Nations. The class, offered only in the spring semester, concentrates on the organization and procedures of the United Nations. Currently taught by Dr. Chris Van Aller, the class is extremely popular among all Winthrop students regardless of major. The students prepare for participation in Winthrop's Model United Nations Conference, traditionally held at the end of March. The class requires no prerequisites and satisfies three general education requirements including: Oral Intensive Communication, Social Science, and Global Perspectives. The conference is the culmination of the class, bringing together college delegates with high school teams.

PLSC 261: Model UN Symposium

  • Section 001 (pdf - 28.66 KB) - The Winthrop Model UN Conference is unique in that the program combines the participation of college students and high school students. Students enrolled in PLSC 261 serve as committee chairs during the conference. After participating in PLSC 260 (a prerequisite for 261) students often continue their Model UN participation through this course and their involvement in The Secretariat, This one hour credit course focuses on committee chair development and conference planning.

PLSC 362: Collegiate Model United Nations

  • The 362 class allows students to compete against other colleges in the region. The class attends two conferences in the Fall Semester including the Carolina’s Conference at the University of North Carolina, and the Southern Regional Model United Nations in Atlanta, Georgia. This class ends in mid November and does not have a written final exam. It may be taken twice for credit.
