Information on Certification as a Secondary Education Teacher 

If you are interested in becoming certified to teach, you should indicate your interest on your admission application and you will be assigned to a mathematics adviser who specializes in certification.  If you need further information regarding teacher certification in mathematics, you should contact the academic admission office in the College of Education, 803/323-2154 or the Department of Mathematics.

It is important to make this decision early in order to meet all of the requirements. The steps include filing a declaration of intent, passing the Praxis I series, completing laboratory experiences, completing a speech and hearing exam, filing a formal application for admission to teacher education, successfully completing prerequisite courses, and a full semester of student teaching.
