About Winthrop University

Winthrop is a public, co-educational university of distinction founded in 1886. It’s beautiful and safe campus is located in Rock Hill, South Carolina. 

Winthrop is an institution that values quality, learning and diversity and welcomes international students from over 40 countries from all over the world. Winthrop is recognized as one of the best institutions of its kind, where quality and value work together to prepare students to LIVE, LEARN, and LEAD. 

Winthrop has more than 6,000 students, with about 81% studying for bachelor's degrees and 19% for master's degrees. Students come from 34 states in the USA and there are 201 international students from roughly 40 countries. The students enjoy a Learning Environment with over 280 full-time faculty members and an average class size of 23 students. Student Life is supported by 160+ clubs and organizations and 18 women's and men’s NCAA Division I sports. 

Winthrop University's scenic central campus is one of Rock Hill's five historic districts; with several buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places. We realize that many of our international prospects are unable to visit the campus before enrolling in classes. Winthrop University was named to U.S. News & World Report's Top Ten Regional Public Universities in the South in the magazine's "America's Best Colleges" 2013 edition.
