International Ambassador Scholarship
> Students must be ENROLLED FULL TIME (12 or more hours per semester) in order to receive Winthrop scholarships.
> Financial aid received from all sources cannot exceed the cost of attendance at Winthrop University. The Office of Financial Aid reserves the right to adjust the amount of a Winthrop scholarship as deemed necessary to comply with federal, state and institutional guidelines.
Spring 2012 and Fall 2012 Entering Classes
Students who apply for admission will be automatically evaluated for scholarship eligibility by the Office of Admissions after an evaluation has been completed by the International Center.
All freshman applicants who are admitted and meet the minimum criteria listed below will receive a scholarship.
- Earn a 3.5 cumulative high school GPA (the GPA will be converted to the US grading scale when applicable) and
- Score 1100 on the SAT or 24 on the ACT (excluding the writing test results for both exams).
Students may be awarded only one of the following academic scholarships. All awards are renewable. Students must enroll in 12 or more hours each semester and earn a cumulative GPA of 3.0. Trustee's Scholarship recipients must earn a minimum GPA of 3.2 to qualify for a renewal of their scholarship.

- International students (applicants who are not US citizens or permanent residents) are classified as out-of-state students and can receive consideration for all merit scholarships.
- Out-of-state scholarships include a grant to cover a portion of out-of-state fees.
- Out-of-state grants awarded by all University departments cannot exceed $11,140.
- Awarded to students who complete the International Baccalaureate program through the senior year of high school.
Spring 2012 and Fall 2012 Entering Classes
The minimum criteria is a 3.5 cumulative GPA completed on 30 or more semester hours (excluding remedial, developmental, and vocational courses).
- Students who apply for admission will be automatically evaluated for scholarship eligibility during the admission process. Transfer scholarships are awarded after the final college transcript has been received by the International Center. To be eligible for transfer merit scholarships, the final transcript must be received no later than two weeks after the first day of classes for the semester.
- Students who have attempted 120 or more hours are not eligible for transfer scholarships.
- Students with a previously-earned bachelor's degree, or who are classified as a readmit, exchange student, or those enrolling part-time at Winthrop University, are not eligible.
- All awards are renewable if Winthrop's criteria for renewing merit scholarships are satisfied.
- Students may be awarded only one of the following academic scholarships.

- All course work completed (excluding remedial, developmental, and vocational courses) will be used to calculate the cumulative semester hours and GPA for scholarship consideration.
New Freshmen and Transfer Students
Fall 2012 Entering Class
The International Ambassador Scholarship is the University's most prestigious award for international students. A limited number of scholarships are awarded to selected international undergraduate students (new freshmen and transfers) who wish to serve as International Center Ambassadors. The scholarships are awarded by the International Center Scholarship Committee. The value of the award is $500 plus an out-of-state grant of $11,140 for the academic year.
The award is renewable for up to eight semesters (maximum of four academic years) of undergraduate study. Students must complete 30 hours of service per semester and earn a cumulative GPA of 2.75 for the scholarship to be renewed.

- Out-of-state grants awarded by all University departments cannot exceed $11,140.
Application Process
If you are interested in applying for the scholarship please complete and submit our International Ambassador Scholarship application. Recipients will be selected based upon a review of their grades in high school or college, and a 1,000 word essay.
A completed application must be received by the International Center. The complete application for admission should include:
- application for admission;
- application fee;
- International Ambassador Scholarship application;
- official high school transcript for freshman applicants;
- official college transcript for transfer applicants;
- documentation of English proficiency (if required); and
- official SAT or ACT scores (if required).
The priority deadline is May 1. Applications that are received or completed after the priority deadline will be considered if funds are available.
