International Ambassador Scholarship
The International Center provides a limited number of scholarships to selected undergraduate students that wish to serve as International Center Ambassadors. These Ambassadors volunteer to help promote the goals of the International Center, support international students at Winthrop University and promote international understanding among local students and the broader community. Scholarship recipients volunteer 30 hours per semester with the International Center.
Scholarships will be awarded by the International Center Scholarship Committee. The scholarship applies during the Fall and Spring semesters (typically not during the summer sessions). During the Fall and Spring semesters recipients would receive $250 per semester plus pay in-state tuition. The total value of the scholarship is estimated at over $10,000 per academic year.
If you are interested in applying for the scholarship please review our International Ambassador Scholarship application. Submit your essay to The International Center of Winthrop University, 701 Oakland Avenue, Rock Hill, South Carolina, 29733, USA. You may also submit your essay via email to the International Center.
On-campus Employment
International students are allowed to work on campus, but not off campus. On campus jobs are available and international students can compete with other students for those positions. On campus employment can be no more than 20 hours per week during the semesters and pays at least $7.25 per hour. On campus employment cannot be considered when meeting the requirement for evidence of financial support. You cannot depend on on-campus employment to pay tuition and other fees at Winthrop. At $7.25 an hour for 20 hours per week a student would earn an estimated $145 per week. At $145 per week for 15 weeks of a semester a student would earn an estimated $2,175. Working 20 hours per week would give a student spending money for living expenses but not enough to pay tuition and fees, etc.
