As a parent of a prospective Winthrop student we already consider you to be a part of our extended Winthrop family. We understand that the college selection process is difficult but we want to assure you that we are here to help throughout the process. Winthrop University
Winthrop is a public, co-educational university of distinction founded in 1886. It’s beautiful and safe campus is located in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
Winthrop is an institution that values quality, learning and diversity and welcomes international students from over 50 countries from all over the world. Winthrop is recognized as one of the best institutions of its kind, where quality and value work together to prepare students to LIVE, LEARN, and LEAD.

Education
Winthrop enjoys national-caliber academics with full accreditation, including 100 percent specialized national accreditation in all eligible academic programs. The University awards Bachelor's and Master's degrees offered in more than 100 programs of study.
University Awards and Honors
Winthrop University was named to U.S. News & World Report's Top Ten Regional Public Universities in the South in the magazine's "America's Best Colleges" 2010 edition. It is the 18th time this publication has chosen Winthrop for inclusion in its listings. Winthrop University has achieved many accolades. Cost of attendance
The estimated cost for the 2011-2012 academic year (two academic semesters) of undergraduate and graduate study at Winthrop University is: USD 36,500 and USD 31,894 respectively.

Please note that fees are subject to a three to six percent increase at the start of each academic year through the action of the Winthrop Board of Trustees. The Cashier's Office at Winthrop University can provide an exact breakdown of the cost per semester for tuition and fees. The Cashier's Office also provides a breakdown of the costs of the different residence halls and meal plans available at Winthrop.
Scholarships
Winthrop University is committed to increasing diversity on campus. For this reason we have introduced an array of scholarships designed for prospective international students. These scholarships are outlined below:
Undergraduate Students
INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE SCHOLARSHIP
The International Baccalaureate scholarship is awarded to freshman applicants who complete the IB Program (Diploma or Certificates) through the senior year of high school and who have achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) on their higher level courses. Please see our Financial Aid page and scroll to "Out-of-State Freshmen Scholarships" for more information on the IB scholarship requirements and award amount.
INTERNATIONAL AMBASSADOR SCHOLARSHIP
The International Center provides a limited number of scholarships to selected undergraduate students that wish to serve as International Center Ambassadors. Scholarships will be awarded by the International Center Scholarship Committee. The value of the scholarship is estimated at over $11,000 per academic year and is renewable up to four years as long as the requirements are met.

TRANSFER STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS
There are scholarships available for transfer students. Please see our Financial Aid page for details on the scholarship requirements and award amounts. International students are considered "Out-of-State" students, so please scroll down to the "Out-of-State Awards" section. Students who apply for admission will be automatically evaluated for these scholarships during the admission process.
FRESHMEN ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS
For international students attending college/university for the first time who have also completed the SAT/ACT examinations, several academic merit scholarships are available. Please see our Financial Aid page for for details on scholarship requirements and award amounts. International students are considered "Out-of-State" students, so please scroll down to the "Out-of-State Freshmen Scholarships" section. Students who apply for admission will be automatically evaluated for these scholarships during the admission process.
ATHLETIC AWARDS
Athletic scholarships are available for our 17 NCAA Division 1 sports. Please contact the International Student Recruiter for more information on who to contact in our Athletic Department for information on athletic scholarships.
TALENT AWARDS
Talent awards are awarded by the College of Visual and Performing Arts based on portfolio review or auditions. Please contact the International Student Recruiter for more information on who to contact in our College of Visual and Performing Arts Department for more information on talent-based scholarships.
On Campus Safety
Your child is and always will be our main focus. There are two offices on campus that work around the clock to ensure that your child is safe. Namely the Winthrop Campus Police and the Office of Health and Counseling Services.
Winthrop Campus Police is responsible for the safe environment surrounding campus. The department is available 24/7 to provide assistance to the Winthrop community.
The office of Health and Counseling Services is designed to provide confidential, professional, quality, cost-effective, acute and routine medical care for all enrolled Winthrop University students. The staff of Health Services is committed in obtaining optimum personal health for each student through services and programs provided.
Career Services:
A Winthrop University diploma carries true value. Rest assured that after graduation, our students will be ready to become leaders in the world beyond campus, and that world will be a better place for your child having been a part of the Winthrop community.
As a student at Winthrop University your child will be given full access to the Center for Career and Civic Engagement.This center is home to three distinctive programs: Career Development, Volunteer & Community Services, and Service Learning. The center provides students with a comprehensive approach to career preparation, personal growth, and services to the community with experiential learning as a key component. Career Services provides the resources and the programs for students and alumni to develop the necessary skills to conduct effective career searches and make informed career decisions.
Services include career guidance, professional development workshops, resume critiques, mock interviews, internship assistance, employment fairs, an Alumni Career Network, and an employment databank.
The International Center
The International Center is the home away from home for our international students, scholars and guests. From orientation to immigration we help our students from the time that they apply right through to their graduation.
The primary “home” for international students at Winthrop is The International Center. You can see the staff of the International Center by visiting our Contact Us link listed on our main website. The Center offers orientation; programs and fun events designed to help your child succeed and enjoy their experience at Winthrop.
