Rock Hill is an ideal location for accessing some of the best destinations in the Southern U.S. The Appalachian and Blue Ridge Mountains are within a 3 hour drive to the west, offering hiking, skiing, and great views. Charleston, a historic low-country favorite, and hundreds of miles of beaches are only three hours to the east.

Charlotte Area Transit System
Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) has a stop in Rock Hill. The Rock Hill Express runs both morning and evening from Rock Hill. (Route 82 X Rock Hill Express)
By Automobile
York County is conveniently located on I-77, a major north/south interstate highway. We are also serviced by I-85 which intersects I-77 just twelve miles north of our county line.
By Bus
There is a Greyhound bus stop in Rock Hill 4.3 miles (6.9 kilometers) from the Winthrop campus. Winthrop is 11 minutes south of the bus stop on Cherry Road. Call (803) 327-9388 for the local terminal or 1-800-231-2222 for Greyhound's fare and schedule information.
By Train
Rail travel is available through Amtrak in Charlotte, NC, 1914 N. Tryon Street which is approximately 25.8 miles (41.4 kilometers) and 37 minutes from Winthrop. For schedule information call 1-800-872-7245.
Overall, the climate is quite pleasant and permits outdoor activities all year long. Winthrop students enjoy picnics at the Winthrop Lake, free access to the Winthrop Golf and Disk (Frisbee) Golf Courses, and use of the indoor swimming pool on campus. Due to the large number of flowering trees that bloom in Rock Hill every spring, students with allergies are advised to bring their allergy medications with them.

Within a 2 to 3 hour drive, skiing is available in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The popular Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head Island, and Kiawah Island Resorts (3 to 4 hours by car) offer some of the best beach experiences in the Southeast. Students are advised to pack everything from a swimsuit to a light winter coat.
