Banner Contest Guidelines:
- The contest is open to recognized student organizations
and university representative groups.
- Banners should fit on
a queen size sheet. Anything larger than a queen size sheet will be
disqualified. (Roughly 80in x 96in). You may use any material you want as long
as it fits these dimensions.
- No profanity will be
allowed on the banners.
- You must include
something about the competing team on your banner. Good taste is a must. If
you have questions regarding the “taste” of what you intend to place on your
banner, please contact Alicia Marstall, 323-2248.
- Points will be
awarded as follows: Creativity: 15 pts. Overall/General Effect: 15 pts. Style:
10 pts. Uniqueness: 5 pts. MAXIMUM 45 pts. (see below for these categories
defined)
- Prizes will be
awarded as follows: First Place $200 Wal-Mart Gift Card. Second Place $100
Wal-Mart Gift Card. Prizes
donated by Winthrop Athletics and the Council of Student Leaders.
- Due to potential damage
to interior wall at the coliseum, banners must be hung on the painted wooden
strips on the walls. If uncertain about hanging the
banner, contact coliseum personnel. Banner must be completed before hanging.
- Banners may be hung
Monday, Feb. 23, 1-3pm. Judging will begin at 3:00pm on Wednesday, Feb. 25. Please use plenty of
thumbtacks or staples! NO DUCT TAPE ALLOWED!!! Ladders will be provided (section 102)
to assist organizations in hanging their banners. Please check with the
representative at the coliseum.

Applications for the
Banner Contest are due by 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, 2008. Banners hung without a
submitted application will not be judged.
- Banners will remain
up through homecoming and may be removed at the end of the men’s homecoming
game.
Scoring definitions
Creativity: How the group incorporates the competing team into their banner.
Up to 15 pts.
Overall or General Effect:
How the overall appearance/presentation is received
Up to 15 pts.
Style:
How the banner was constructed. (e.g.
materials, colors, artistic design . . .)
Up to 10 pts.
Uniqueness: What sets you apart from the rest of the groups.
Up to 5 pts.
