Week's Events and Activities

Monday, November 7

Banner Hanging – Come out to the coliseum and hang up your spirit banner that you and your group created to show off some school spirit against Eastern Kentucky University.  Please use a standard queen bed sheet and be as creative and school spirited as possible.  Banners will be judged on creativity, style, uniqueness, and overall or general effect.  Staple gun will be provided to hang up the sheets at the Coliseum. Aramark giftcards to the winning groups!  Coliseum, Time to hang the banners will be announced soon.  Also, the sign up forms will be available from this website soon. Check back.
Come out and hang them from 12-1 p.m.

Tuesday, November 8

Tipoff Banquet - The Winthrop Eagle Club presents Tip Off 2011. Meet and have dinner with the Winthrop Men’s and Women’s’ Basketball Coaches and Players,  Tuesday November 8, 2011.  The evening will feature keynote speaker Sylvia Hatchell, Head Women's Basketball Coach at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill.  Reception 6:30pm and Dinner 7pm, Richardson Ballroom, DiGiorgio Campus Center, Winthrop Campus, $20 per person and $10 for children 10 and under.  Limited seating, Reservations are required by Friday November 4, 2011.  For more information contact Sharen DuBard at dubards@winthrop.edu or call 803.323.2129 ext.6218Cost  

Casino Night - Come out and play some of your favorite casino games and win prizes!  Free food and mocktails!  Not a casino game player?  Come to play War, Go Fish, and even Bingo!!  Texas Hold'em and Spades tournaments will begin at 8:15!  West Center - Basketball Court 1, 8-10 p.m. Free

Student Talent Show - Kick off the Homecoming week as Winthrop students take the stage and show off their skills at this annual Homecoming favorite. The Homecoming Court finalists will be announced during the Talent Show and voting will begin immediately following the show online. Tillman Auditorium, 8 p.m. FREE.Free 

Thursday, November 10

Dinner in the Café – Come by for a big special dinner complete with games and prizes!  Thomson Hall Cafeteria, 4-7p.m.

Lip Sync Competition and Pep Rally - Think you can perform like Journey or dance like Usher?  Well come out and show off what you got at Winthrop's first annual Lip Sync Competition. Prizes will be awarded to the winning groups.  Check back soon for updates and entry forms. Richardson Ballroom - DiGiorgio Center, 7 p.m. Free FREE

Friday, November 11

Remembrance Day National Roll Call Remembering the Sacrifices of Ten Years at War
On Veteran’s Day, 11/11/11, colleges and universities will be participating in The Remembrance Day National Roll Call to honor casualties of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom by performing a synchronized reading of all names. Participants will be reading the names in 15 minute increments from the Hardin Garden and from the Amphitheater. A ceremony will be held starting at 10:50 at `the Amphitheater to Remember the Sacrifices of the Ten Years at War. Cultural Event Amphitheatre, 10:50 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Garnet & Gold Friday - Student Alumni Council members will be looking for students and alumni displaying the most spirit. Don't get caught wearing another school's colors - you might get a ticket! Send in your photos to wualumni@winthrop.edu. Campus wide, all day long.

Campus Golf IntramuralTournament 
1 p.m., Lois Rhame West Health, Physical Education, and Wellness Center 
Picture this...a golf course spread out around campus where buckets are the holes and you're hitting tennis balls instead of those small little white golf balls.  That's what you will get with this awesome new event to Winthrop. Prizes will be awarded to the winning teams!  Open to all faculty, staff and students. Free

Tailgating - Join other Winthrop alumni and students for the Homecoming tradition, but don't forget to head in to cheer on the Eagles at 4 p.m. Coliseum Parking Lots, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Alumni, click here to register for prizes.

Lloyd Dobler Effect Concert - Tailgating is kicked up a notch with the sounds of the Lloyd Dobler Effect. Outside Coliseum, Noon - 2 p.m. FREE. Free

Winthrop Men's Basketball Alumni Game - Come watch basketball alums like Pierre Wooten, Eyo Eiffiong and many others from the past as they gather for Homecoming 2011. Coliseum, 1 p.m.

Men's Basketball - Cheer on the Winthrop as they take on the Colonels of Eastern Kentucky University. Homecoming Court winners will be announced at Half-time. During the game, the winning Homecoming Banner and Float will be announced during the game as well. NPHC Step Show - The annual Homecoming Step Show is a sell-out every year, so don't wait to get your tickets! Sponsored by Sorority and Fraternity Affairs. Tickets are $7 in advance and $15 the day of the show.  The show takes place at Byrnes Auditorium; doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. 
Ticket Information: Beginning October 4, tickets will be sold from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the DiGiorgio Campus Center on the 1st floor lobby.  Tickets will also be sold from 5 - 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday in East Thomson and the DiGiorgio Campus Center during the week of Homecoming.  Alumni and community members can reserve tickets by clicking here   until Friday, November 11 at noon for $7 a ticket.  Reserved tickets will need to be picked up the ay of the event between noon and 3 p.m. at Byrnes Auditorium.  Local high school students will be admitted for $10 with a valid high school ID.
