Policies regarding Turnitin:
1. If you hand in a hard copy on time but submit it to Turnitin after midnight on the due date, I will deduct five points from the grade. You must submit your paper to the late-paper file for that assignment.
2. If you fail to submit your paper to Turnitin by the time I calculate final grades, YOU WILL RECEIVE A ZERO FOR THAT ASSIGNMENT.
3. If you hand in a hard copy of your paper on the due date and submit it to Turnitin by midnight that night, you’re fine.
4. If you turn in your paper after the due date, you face only the normal penalties for a late paper, as per the syllabus. There is no additional point deduction regarding Turnitin. Put your paper in the late-paper file for that assignment.
5. You must submit the same paper to me and to Turnitin. If you don’t do this, I cannot accept the paper.
6. You’ll receive an email receipt. Please hang on to this until a graded paper is returned to you.
7. The “Trial Papers” file is there for you to try out the system prior to the first due date. DO NOT submit a paper that you ever plan to turn in, for my class or any other.
8. DO NOT submit a draft to Turnitin. The first paper you submit to Turnitin is the one that I will grade.
9. DO NOT submit the same paper twice. (If you do, it comes back as 100% plagiarized.)
To use Turnitin:
1. If you have not previously used Turnitin, you must first register as new user. Go to the Turnitin.com Home Page and click on "Create a User Profile." (If you have used Turnitin before, enter your E-mail address and password, then click on the "Log In" button.) Each student must register separately and submit papers to his or her own individual account.
2. Click on "join new class."
3. Enter the class code (1587383) and the class password (roark). The password is case-sensitive, so do not capitalize the “r.”
4. Submit your paper as per the instructions on the website.
n I have never had a technical problem with Turnitin and know far less about information technology than the average college student. It’s not that I don’t want to help, but you’re much more likely to get such help from a student who has used it than you are from me.
n In the past, Turnitin has refused for some reason to accept papers from some email addresses. If you have problems that you cannot solve, please set up a new email account.
