Background:

 

Dr. Lee, a third generation Winthrop graduate, received his undergraduate degree in history and

political science from Presbyterian College. After teaching and coaching in the public schools, Dr. Lee

earned a master's in history from Winthrop. He holds a doctorate from the University of South Carolina,

where he began his university teaching career. He has taught at USC, the University of North Carolina-

Charlotte, and Belmont Abbey College. He has been a member of Winthrop's faculty since 1994.

 

A former president of the South Carolina Historical Association, Dr. Lee frequently lectures in the region
on topics ranging from military affairs to local history. He has served as a commentator for NBC News,
PBS, and National Public Radio. He consults often with public school districts and assists historical sites

with programming. Dr. Lee is the mayor of York, the county seat.

    A survey of the development of South Carolina, emphasizing political, economic and cultural

  • 550 Special Topics in History (3)
    Advanced in-depth consideration of specific topics of particular concern within history. Notes: May be

    retaken for additional credit under different topics. Offered at variable times.

  • SCST 391/591 Social Studies Methods (3)
    Students will spend a minimum of 8 hours per week in the classroom under the supervision of a social 
    studies education professor and will work with a mentor teacher in preparation for the final internship

    Open to graduate students only.

  • 611 America At War In the 20th Century (3)
    Beginning with the Spanish-American War, we analyze the wars of the last one hundred years. Students

    interview people effected by these wars and share with their peers their findings.
