Please congratulate the women of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. for being selected as Chapter of the Month for October/November.
Sigma Gamma Rho is an organization devoted to service, educating the youth of today and addressing concerns that impact society educationally, civically, and economically. The Lambda Kappa chapter continues to uphold its values and mission of the organization and has reflected that in their chapter's performance for the months of October and November. The chapter hosted its 2012 Founders' Week titled, "The RHOad To Restoration", which highlighted health issues and addressed ways to increase your physical, mental and social health. During the month of October, the chapter hosted their Hattie McDaniel Breast Cancer Awareness and Health Program philanthropy and their infamous I Am Not My Hair program which focused on healthy hair, hair textures and how hair styles play a role with professionalism in corporate America. During November they continued to educate the Winthrop community on healthier food choices they can make individually and as a student at WU through their "Cooking On A College Budget" program. Their Founders' Week proved to be a huge success and informed the campus of many health topics that will lead to a 'healthier you'. Along with their programming, the chapter has done a wonderful job reaching out to other Greek organizations and showing the true meaning of Greek unity. The chapter continues to give back to the community through their volunteer events at the YMCA, ParentSmart: Toys For Happiness, AVON Breast Cancer Association and the local Rock Hill elementary schools, just to name a few. The Lambda Kappa chapter will continue to present the Winthrop community with great programs and events in the upcoming semester and function by its sorority's motto, "Greater Service, Greater Progress".
