Community Service Scholarship

The Close Scholarship

Each fall, entering freshmen from South Carolina with high academic achievement and a demonstrated commitment to the community will be recruited to apply for the Close Scholarship during the fall semester.

Valued at $3,600 per year, six renewable Close Scholarships are annually awarded to freshmen. Students selected as Close Scholars are required to perform an average of 112 hours per semester (eight hours per week) of approved community service in York, Lancaster, and/or Chester county. Scholars must also maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative Winthrop GPA.

In the event that a Scholar is unable to fulfill his/her obligations and loses the scholarship, an upperclassman of the same class standing may be considered to receive the Close Scholarship.
