How to Run a Degree Audit in Wingspan

Go to the Wingspan faculty home page (http://w4f.winthrop.edu).

Log in using your Outlook username and password.

Select the current term.

Click on "My Advisees."

Select the student whose audit you want to run by clicking in the little circle next to his/her name; then click "Continue" in the box below the list of your advisees.

Click "Degree Audit". Make sure the circle for "Primary" is selected. Then click the box "Submit" at the bottom of the blue rectangle. This will generate an online audit for your student, which you can print out.

To interpret this audit, look at the four sections:

a. Section 1: Selected Student Data. This records the major, minor, transfer hours, hours completed, hours in progress, GPA, etc.

b. Section 2: Academic Requirements Remaining. This lists the requirements for the student’s degree program. Look for the phrase "MUST COMPLETE" as it will list requirements the computer does not think the student has met.

c. Section 3: Academic Requirements Completed or in Progress. This section simulates the Inventory Sheet; the computer will sort the courses it finds in the student’s transcript into these categories. OFTEN COURSES ARE MISPLACED; in this case, the student (or you) must contact Lynn Brooks to have courses reclassified. Ours is not to reason why the computer sorts classes as it does; ours is but to e-mail Lynn, or send the student to her with a hard copy of the problematic audit. You can also call Lynn at 323-2183.

d. Some audits, especially for students who have transferred or changed programs, will have a section 4, Work Not Applicable to this Program. Advisors should check this section carefully for work that might be applied to other areas of the student’s program; the Advising Office in 106 KIN will be happy to reconsider how a course is counted if the student provides a catalog description, syllabus, or other supporting material.

If you want to run a "what if?" audit to check what would happen if the student changes majors or tracks, follow steps 1-5 above. In step 6, choose the circle for "Modeling" and click the "Submit" box. Use the pull-down boxes that appear to choose a major, a track in the major, and a catalog year for the student. When you click "Submit," the new audit will appear. Note: This will not ‘save.’ If the student wants to change majors or tracks, s/he must still go to 106 Kinard and fill out the paperwork.

Please note that to perform a "What if?" audit for a change of minor, you still have to use SIS, screen 681; that capability should be available in Wingspan in the future.
