Locating Information in Dacus Library Online (DLO)

Dacus Library's online catalog (DOC) allows information to be accessed by author, title and subject. Choose the Author or Title search modes to quickly locate a specific book. Choose the Subject search mode to find books on topics. You can also use DLO to find out if Dacus owns any particular journal. Choose the Journal search mode, then type in the exact title of the journal. DLO will tell you if we subscribe to that journal and where we keep it.

Online Databases:

Physical Education Index

Indexes hundreds on scholarly journals and popular magazines as well as conference proceedings, reports, and patents
Coverage is from 1970 to the present
Includes abstracts, but no full-text articles; has link for checking library holdings, including full-text in other databases
Can limit a search to English language publications only or to journal articles only
Can select scholarly (peer reviewed) journals only
Use an * to truncate a search term or to search both the plural and singular forms
Can email, print, or download search results
Click on the “Help & Support” button for search hints and additional information

Academic Search Premier

A multi-disciplinary index to more than 8,000 journals, about half of which are full-text
Includes nearly 1,000 education-related titles
Can limit search to scholarly (peer reviewed) journals
Can use an * to truncate a search term
Can email, print, or download search results

ERIC

ERIC is the Educational Resources Information Center, a federally-funded national information system, providing a variety of services and products on a broad range of education-related topics
Containing over one million records, ERIC indexes over 2000 journal titles covering the entire field of education; including, adult education, assessment and evaluation, curriculum, urban education and more
Includes indexing for both non journal material listed in RIE, Resources in Education (the ERIC Documents or ED’s) and journal articles listed in CIJE, Current Index to Journals in Education (EJ’s)
- ED’s: from 1966 to 2004, available on microfiche on the top floor of Dacus Library; from 1993 to present, available full text online
- EJ’s: some full text of articles are available on ERIC; for the others there are links for checking Dacus Library holdings.
Can limit to record type, including research reports. In one of the boxes identified as “Publication Type”, select “Reports - Research/Technical” from the drop-down list

MEDLINE

Indexes nearly 9,600 peer reviewed journals and other resources in the field of medicine, including clinical and experimental medicine, nursing, nutrition, psychiatry, and health
Includes foreign language publications
Coverage is from 1965 to the present
Few full-text articles are included; has link for checking library holdings
Use a + to find both singular and plural forms of a search term, use an * to truncate a search term
Can email, print, or download search results

CINAHL Plus with Full Text

Indexes 1,700 nursing and allied health journals both popular and scholarly
Can limit search to scholarly (peer reviewed) journals only
Coverage is back to 1982
Includes foreign language publications
Few full-text articles are included; has link for checking library holdings
Use a + to find both singular and plural forms of a search term, use an * to truncate a search term
Can email, print, or download search results

SPORTDiscus

Covers sports, fitness and related disciplines.
Contains over 650,000 records from journals and books including over 20,000 dissertations and theses.
Coverage is back to 1800.
60 different languages.

(NOTE: ERIC, Academic Search Premier, Medline, CINAHL Plus with Full Text and SPORTdiscus as well as other databases can be searched simultaneously by selecting EBSCOhost Research Databases from the Alphabetical List of All Databases. Be sure to set any search limits in each of the databases.)
