Citing Electronic Information
APA Documentation Style

Susan Silverman
Winthrop University
June, 2007

Notes:

  1. APA's recommendations for citing electronic media continue to change, for the latest update, consult the APA Web page:  http://www.apastyle.org/elecref.html

  2. At a minimum, a reference to an Internet source should include a title or description, a date (either the date of publication or the date of retrieval), and an address.  The address or URL is the most critical element.

  3. Italics can be used instead of underlining.  Either is acceptable, as long as they are used consistently.

  4. The examples listed below are single spaced, APA style requires that references be double spaced with a hanging indentation.

  5. To cite in text, provide author or title, date, and page or paragraph number

  6. For additional clarification, please consult the fifth edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, pages 268 - 281.
