Emily holds an MFA in Dance/Choreography from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro and a BA in Dance from Denison University in Ohio. She is also a registered yoga teacher.
Emily’s research interests stem from her MFA thesis concert, in which she rearranged a typical proscenium theatre in the form of an abstract house in order to examine the question, “Are we most truly ourselves at home?” She is currently at work on “Progressive Dinner Party/Dance,” in which participants will eat and dance at a series of houses on a neighborhood street. The work is interdisciplinary, collaborative, and participatory, Emily’s primary areas of interest in choreography. At Winthrop, she teaches modern and ballet techniques, improvisation, choreography, dance history, conditioning, and K-12 dance education.

Emily serves on the board of the North Carolina Dance Alliance and is currently on the Awards Committee for the National Dance Education Organization.
