Mr. Harris has been the trumpet professor at Winthrop since the Fall of 2013 where he teaches applied trumpet and Trumpet Ensemble. He holds degrees in trumpet performance from Texas Tech University and Southern Methodist University. He has performed with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Buffalo Philharmonic, New Mexico Symphony Orchestra, and the National Repertory Orchestra. He has served as guest principal with the Virginia Symphony, the Seoul Philharmonic, and the Filarmonica de Jalisco in Guadalajara, Mexico. Prof. Harris has served as acting principal trumpet of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra on many occasions. As soloist he has appeared with orchestras and wind ensembles in New York, Nevada, Texas, New Mexico, and North Carolina performing works by Haydn, Hummel, Neruda, J.S. Bach, Leopold Mozart, Vivaldi, and Copland.
He has served as the brass coach for the Charlotte Symphony Youth orchestras since 2011, and has served as an adjunct faculty member at UNC Charlotte, and Central Piedmont Community College. He also enjoys playing chess, and helping with instrumental music at his church. Currently, he is Second Trumpet with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, where he has been a member since 2009.
