Hildreth is an acoustic and electric bassist who is comfortable playing in a wide variety of styles. He has performed with jazz greats like Clark Terry, Marvin Stamm, Chris Potter, Bob Sheppard, Harold Danko, Rich Perry, Tommy Newsome, Bill Mays, Ross Tompkins, Buddy Morrow, Gene Bertoncini, Mundell Lowe, Bernard Purdie, Bucky Pizzarelli, and Larry Coryell.
He also has appeared with some of the greatest vocalists of our time, including Linda Ronstadt, Bernadette Peters, Marlena Shaw, Dolly Parton, Margaret Whiting, Maureen McGovern, and Harry Connick, Jr.
A regular in the Charlotte, N.C., pit orchestras for the national touring productions of Broadway musicals, he has backed performers like Jerry Lewis, Don Rickles, Theodore Bickel, Rachel York, Molly Ringwald, Sandy Duncan, John O’Hurley, Gregory Harrison, Sally Struthers, Alan Ruck, Cathy Rigby, and Mackenzie Phillips.
Orchestras with which he has appeared include the Charlotte Symphony, the South Carolina Philharmonic, the Asheville Symphony, the Charleston Symphony, and the Augusta Symphony.
Recording credits include albums with the Noel Friedline Quintet, Loonis McGlohon, John Valerio, Janiece Jaffe, the Vince Lewis Trio, Ross Holmes, Susan Sherlock, Vollie McKenzie, Liz King, Chris Cortez, Joe Burke, and the Jim Stack Quartet. His work also has been featured in film and on television.
Hildreth holds music degrees from Winthrop and the University of South Carolina. He is a doctoral candidate at the University of Georgia.
