Starrett grew up in Kansas. Prior to coming to Winthrop, she was assistant professor of jewelry/metals and industrial design at Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids, Mich.
She has presented her research and writings internationally. Her creative work has been in exhibitions across the U.S. as well as England and Germany. Her work also is included in the permanent interactive collection at the Museum of Contemporary Craft in Portland, Ore. Starrett's art and research have been published in Metalsmith Magazine, Art Jewelry Magazine, and two of the Lark Books 500 series books. Her art was featured on the cover of the August 2008 Metalsmith Magazine Exhibition in Print.
