Message from the Dean
Welcome to the College of Visual and Performing Arts! The academic disciplines within our college have been a central component of Winthrop University’s mission for well over a century. If you’ve looked at the CVPA mission statement, you know that we are one of only a few universities in the nation and the only college in the Carolinas with a comprehensive arts program nationally accredited in all the arts disciplines. We offer undergraduate programs in fine arts, design, music, theatre, and dance and graduate degrees in art and design, music, and arts administration.
Our proximity to Charlotte offers our students opportunities to draw upon the many arts resources of a major metropolitan area – and we’ve established strong relationships with museums, galleries, dance companies, theatre organizations, orchestras, and many other arts institutions. The facilities on campus include advanced technology laboratories in all the arts, contemporary dance studios, traditional and experimental theatre spaces, an unparalleled music conservatory, and studios in the diverse disciplines of the visual arts.
Whether you are interested in becoming a sculptor, symphony conductor, interior designer, professional musician, choreographer, graphic artist, arts educator, actor, director, or composer, you’ll find Winthrop the place to expand and nurture your talent.
Feel free to explore our website and examine our diverse programs and activities. But we especially invite you to visit us in person and see the work of our faculty and students in classrooms, studios, and laboratories on a campus committed to creativity, academics, and artistic excellence. If you have any questions or need additional information, I encourage you to call me (803-323-2310) or email me (firstname.lastname@example.org). I look forward to hearing from you.
