I chose to study at Winthrop University based on the reputation of the Fine Arts department. I heard from many sources that Winthrop University was the best place to study art in the state, so it was the natural choice. I focused on printmaking at Winthrop because it gave me the opportunity to combine my love of drawing with the processes of intaglio, relief, screen printing, and monotype. Unexpected possibilities opened up with this combination that captured my attention and imagination, and I have followed these possibilities until now. The Fine Arts department at Winthrop University laid a solid artistic foundation for me to build on. There was an equal emphasis on the conceptual and purely visual aspects of art making, and a creative environment that encouraged stimulating and challenging discussions. This foundation has contributed to giving me the strength, courage and inspiration that I have needed in continuing pursuit of my artistic goals. These days I am living and working in Helsinki, Finland, where I am completing my MFA in printmaking at the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts.
