B.A. in Art History / Allison Taylor
My love of Art History was honed after extensive travels through my first career in the airline business. I would find myself, in a foreign city, seeking out the local art museums and spending hours of my time walking through galleries happily immersed in the art. It dawned on me during these museum visits that I really wanted to pursue a career in the art museum world. I then did some research on universities that offer B.A.'s in Art History and decided that Winthrop University was a perfect fit for me. Winthrop, with its national and international reputation and stellar Art History faculty, made the decision easy.
Earning my B.A. in Art History from Winthrop University opened many doors and has enabled me to have a career in the museum field. Through Winthrop, I was able to obtain an internship with the Museum of York County and the Mint Museum, and ultimately gain a full time position in the Mint’s education department where I have worked my way up to my current position of Adult Programs Coordinator. Having a degree in Art History pays off for me everyday in my role as a museum educator and enables me to have a broader understanding of the classes I teach, the interns I mentor, the artists I book for lectures and demonstrations, and my daily interaction with other museum professionals
