HMXP 102 - The Human Experience: Who am I?
Core Commitment Exploration Session - October 26, 2007
The HMXP 102 Exploration session was quite a
success. It was attended by close to 45 participants who
enjoyed stimulating conversation and shared experiences.
Before attending the session, participants (HMXP
instructors) engaged in reading, "Academic Freedom and Educational
Responsibility," a statement published by AAC&U regarding
intellectual diversity in undergraduate education. The reading
served as a springboard for discussion centered around how to
promote a greater degree of intellectual diversity and
perspective-taking in the HMXP 102 course.
Results of the discussions included specific
strategies shared among instructors - suggestions for using
assigned readings, building trust among students, developing
perspective through analysis of experiences, and many more.
Notes were gathered and compiled and sent to the HMXP director for
dissemination among current instructors as well as use in future
HMXP instructor training.
