Core Commitments: Educating Students for Personal and Social Responsibility

Hundreds of Winthrop faculty and staff recently expressed themselves through a survey regarding personal and social responsibility. Nearly every member indicated that we SHOULD work on developing personal and social responsibility as part of the college experience. Now, the question is: What ideas do you have about how we can do that most effectively? Tell us what would be most helpful as we seek to help students: (1)Strive for excellence and develop a strong work ethic, (2) Cultivate personal and academic integrity, (3) Contribute to a larger community through service, (4) Take seriously the perspectives of diverse others, and (5) Develop competence in ethical and moral reasoning.
