Dr. Cheryl Mader is an assistant professor in the Department of Curriculum and Pedagogy at Winthrop University. She began her career teaching middle school science in West Virginia. Finding many children struggling to comprehend their science textbooks, Dr. Mader began her quest for ways to assist those children who find reading difficult. That quest ended in Dr. Mader completing her Master’s Degree in Reading and graduating from West Virginia University in 2007 with a doctorate degree in Curriculum and Instruction with areas of emphasis in Literacy Studies and Instructional Technology. She has many years of experience working with struggling readers from kindergarten through adult. Much of her work has been completed in clinical settings. Dr. Mader also worked for an educational software company for many years leading to her interest in how technology can be used for teaching and learning.
