Area(s):  Sport history with a focus on the sporting experiences of women in the 20th Century.

Dr. Chepko's main research area is in sport history with a focus on the sporting experiences of women in the 20th Century. She served as a visiting scholar at Smith College during the 100 year celebration of women's basketball. She has published extensively in both sport history and curriculum and instruction including co-authoring two books and three chapters on women in sport textbooks. Dr. Chepko is a sought after presenter who has made over 500 presentations at the state, regional and national levels. She currently serves as the NASPE/AAHE Board Representative to SASB of NCATE. Stevie Chepko chaired the NASPE/NCATE Committee for the Reveiw and Revision for the National Standards for Initial Teacher Preparation, which established the 2008 National Initial Teacher Education Standards for Physical Education.

Last year, Dr. Chepko's service to the discipline of physical education was acknowledged by her peers with the awarding of an AAHPERD Honor Award at the 2010 National Convention. She has also has received a SCAHPER (South Carolina), MAHPERD (Massachusetts, VAHPERD (Vermont), and Eastern Distict Honor Award, was named Eastern District Scholar, was an Inaugural Fellow in the North American Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance, and is in the Castleton Sate Athletic Hall of Fame and the West Virginia University Physical Education Hall of Fame. While at Winthrop, Dr. Chepko has received three Presidential Citations and one Service Award. On a personal basis, she lives with her 92 year old father (Steve) and 86 year old mother (Ida) in Rock Hill. She continues to marvel at their continued commitment to each other after 65 years of marriage.
