Macfeat Early Childhood Education Laboratory School receives Honorable Mention
Congratulations to our colleagues in the Macfeat Early Childhood Education Laboratory School. They have been selected for an Honorable Mention recognition in the 2016 Family Engagement Contest sponsored by the Southern Early Childhood Association (SECA). Macfeat will be featured in the summer issue of Dimensions of Early Childhood, the organization’s publication; and the Macfeat director and teachers have been invited to attend their 2017 conference in Biloxi, Mississippi on March 9-11, where they will be recognized.
Only two schools were chosen for this category in the entire region, which includes 12 southern states. Erin Hamel noted, “the Macfeat teachers truly believe in the value of home-school partnerships and are exemplary models for building and maintaining strong relationships with families. They are an inspiration to me and to so many of our college students.”
The College of Education is so proud of what the Macfeat school is doing on a day-to-day basis. At a time when standards and accountability often push curriculum and not-so-developmentally appropriate practices down on kindergarten and pre-K programs, the college is thankful the Macfeat teachers demonstrate what effective and appropriate practices are for young children—to the benefit of all those kids as well as all the undergraduate and graduate students who are touched.
CONGRATULATIONS and THANKS to Erin Hamel, Mary Chamberlain, Liz McNelly, Kelly Maclachlan, and Mary Ellen Lorow!
