2013 COE Faculty and Staff Recognition Awards
COE Award for Collaboration and Service: Ms. Carolyn Grant
Two years ago, the College of Education created a new office to support the clinical experiences for teacher preparation programs. As the director of this office, Ms. Carolyn Grant has been instrumental in improving communication, providing trainings and professional development, and supporting teacher candidates.
She makes all with whom she interacts (students, mentor teachers, faculty, teachers) feel valued and worthy of focused attention. Being in a position that is often wrought with challenges and issues, Ms. Grant’s honest, yet caring nature provides a foundation for positive resolutions. She serves the college and the teacher education unit with enthusiasm, passion, and commitment to improve field experiences for teacher candidates and supervisors.
Carolyn Grant is a true asset to the College, the Winthrop University-School Partnership Network, faculty, supervisors and mentors, and most of all, the students.
COE Award for Collaboration and Service: Ms. Tara Comer
Tara Comer came to Winthrop in 2010 as the budget analyst and administrative assistant for the NetLEAD grant. She was the best hire Winthrop could possibly have made.
Ms. Comer is a team-player and collaboration is a natural practice for her. Much of her work is about working with people to serve our larger community. She genuinely cares about customer service, solving problems for our students, and making arrangements for faculty to represent Winthrop in a variety of settings.
Tara is the face of Winthrop that many people know both inside and outside the college. We are very proud to have her in our Educational Leadership/NetLEAD family. She is extremely deserving of recognition for being able to collaborate with so many diverse groups of people, from across campus or throughout the region. She is awesome.
