A Place at the Table, Tuesday, March 11: 6pm (Dina’s Place) (Cultural & GLI Credit Approved!)
Co-sponsored by Center for Career & Civic Engagement, Department of Nutrition, and Student Dietetics Association
A Place at the Table is a documentary focusing on poverty, hunger and food insecurity in the United States while following the stories of several individuals struggling with these issues: Barbie, a single Philadelphia mother on Food Stamps; Rosie, a Colorado fifth-grader who relies on friends and neighbors to feed her and her family; and Tremonica, a Mississippi second-grader suffering asthma and other health problems exacerbated by her poor diet. A panel discussion will follow the screening. Cultural credit applied for. We hope to see you there! If you have further questions, please contact Katlin Meissinger at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Literacy in SC Event – March 12, 7-8:30pm (Richardson Ballroom)
One of the highest predictors of future success for children is the ability to read proficiently from an early age. Unfortunately, in South Carolina, only 80% of third graders are reading at or above grade level. If you want to learn more about this pressing issue in our state, join us for “Literacy in South Carolina,” a panel discussion. Educators from across the state will discuss reasons why our students are struggling to gain reading proficiency and the future implications for students who are not reading on grade level by the end of third grade. Join us for this critical conversation.

Presented by Amy Sullivan and area employers
This session will connect how involvement leads to networking and explain how we use networking to uncover the “hidden job market” to ultimately find success in the job search. We will have a few employers on hand who will further emphasize the value of taking advantage of your network to uncover the hidden job market. (This workshop counts toward the "Think Critically" (Garnet Star) component on the All-Star Leaderboard.)
