Literacy Intervention Team

Winthrop University’s Literacy Intervention Team (LIT) mobilizes college students to serve as reading tutors, with the goal to alleviate illiteracy in the Rock Hill community.  Our trained university LIT members work with local first through fifth grade students on literacy based activities such as one-on-one reading, group reading, and guided reading to improve basic reading skills.  Team members meet with children various times a week Monday through Friday, based on their class schedule and availability.   We serve children off- campus at various sites including Rosewood Elementary, York Road Elementary and the YMCA.

LIT tutors are needed from 8:00am – 5:30pm Monday through Friday.

Students participating in the federal work study program, may be compensated for their service as a tutor.  To learn more about the federal work study program, please review the Financial Aid website.   Volunteers are also welcome!
