Overview
Designed for professionals working in non-profit organizations, this 56-hour fundamentals course covers topics that build skills in the management of people, systems, and finances. Upon completion of the program, participants will receive a certificate of completion from the Institute of Management at Winthrop University. Space in this program is limited to the first 30 registrants.
The certificate program was developed to accomplish the following:
- develop a broader knowledge of the legal environment of non-profits
- build upon leadership skills for human resource management
- learn best practices through benchmarking peer agencies
- build knowledge and skills for the not-for-profit manager
- create a mechanism for setting goals
Course Content
This program covers key functional areas of non-profit management:

- Legal Basics and Operational Accountability
- Accounting and Finance
- Leading the Organization
- Marketing and Public Relations
- Sustainability and Development
- Human Resources Management
- Program Effectiveness - The Planning Process
Who Should Attend
- Non-profit executive directors, presidents, and CEOs who desire skills building
- Program managers, department managers, and key leadership staff
Upon completion of the program, participants will receive a certificate of completion from the Institute of Management at Winthrop University.
Dates & Location
Classes will rotate between the campuses of Winthrop University, Rock Hill, SC and the University of South Carolina-Lancaster extension. Classes meet once per month, on a Tuesday or Wednesday, beginning at 8:30 a.m. and ending at 3 or 3:30 p.m. depending on that day's content.
Program Fee
The registration fee is $425. This fee includes tuition, textbook, workbooks, case studies, mastery assessments, selected reading materials, and breakfasts and lunches. All lunches are working lunches; dedicated for speakers or working through text assignments. A portion of the costs of this program may be funded by the J. Marion Sims, Chester County Healthcare, and the Sisters of Charity of South Carolina foundations.
