Charles Alvis is a past president of the South Carolina Association of CPAs. He has served as a member of the American Institute of CPAs Governing Council. Currently, he serves the South Carolina Association of CPAs in the following capacities: Chairman of the Management Advising Services/Specialty Services Committee, Member of the Business Valuation/Litigation Support Committee, and a Member of the Accounting Careers/Academic Relations Committee. The Management Advisory Committee is charged with the responsibility of identifying and delivering the training necessary to ensure the success of the professional accountants in South Carolina as they enter the 21st century.
Further, Charles Alvis is state treasurer of the South Carolina Arts Alliance and chairman of the Finance Committee. Also, he is a past chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Cultural and Heritage Commission of York County. In addition, he serves on the Advisory Board of Wachovia. Plus, he serves on the Board of Directors of the York County Natural Gas Authority.
Charles Alvis has been awarded the Winthrop University Kinard Award for Excellence in Teaching, the South Carolina Governor's Award for Outstanding Teaching, The Rock Hill Area Chamber of Commerce Award for Excellence in Teaching, the First Union Excellence in Teaching Award, the South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants Outstanding Accounting Educator Award, and the Phi Kappa Phi Excellence in Teaching Award
