Master of Arts in Spanish
The M.A. Spanish program builds on an undergraduate degree which included at least 24 semester hours of Spanish. It is designed to deepen and promote awareness of all facets of the Hispanic world: language, linguistics, literature, history, and politics--past and present, by engaging students in such a way that they perfect their language skills as well as their individual subject knowledge.
The Master of Arts in Spanish consists of 30 semester hours with a thesis option*.
There are five required core courses:
- Advanced Phonetics
- Advanced Conversation
- Peninsular or Spanish-American Civilization
- Great Figures of Spanish or Spanish-American Literature
- Advanced Oral and Written Communication or Advanced Grammar and Composition
The other 15 semester hours can be taken in additional Spanish courses or in approved electives.
*The thesis option grants 6 semester hours, which are in lieu of two courses.
