It is designed to deepen and promote awareness of all facets of the Hispanic world: language, linguistics, literature, history, and politics--past and present, by engaging students in such a way that they perfect their language skills as well as their individual subject knowledge.
The Master of Arts in Spanish consists of 30 semester hours with a thesis option*.
There are five required core courses:
- Advanced Phonetics
- Advanced Conversation
- Peninsular or Spanish-American Civilization
- Great Figures of Spanish or Spanish-American Literature
- Advanced Oral and Written Communication or Advanced Grammar and Composition
The other 15 semester hours can be taken in additional Spanish courses or in approved electives.
*The thesis option grants 6 semester hours, which are in lieu of two courses.
