GRA Role

CSWRA GroupGraduate students interested in gaining experience in research can apply for a Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) position in the CSWRA. The number of available positions is limited and selection is competitive. GRAs participate in all elements of research and assessment projects including literature reviews, assisting in the development of protocols and methodology, data collection, data entry for analysis, reporting, dissemination of findings, and other necessary duties as assigned.

Data collection can include telephone/face to face interviews using pre-developed instruments, co-facilitating focus groups, as well as case record evaluation. Additional responsibilities may also include travel within the Carolinas and supervising a research team of peers. In addition to developing research skills, a GRA position offers opportunities to develop other marketable skills such as public speaking, technical writing, professional networking, event planning, and leadership.

Students must be able to commit at least 10 hours per week. GRAs typically work 10-15 hours per week. A limited number of positions are also available during the summer months. During the summer, GRAs can typically work up to 30 hours per week. Interviews for positions that will be available for the upcoming academic year begin during the 1st week of April and close once all the positions are filled. Applications are accepted in April for summer positions and in June for fall positions.
